May 7 to 9 with track activity starting early in the week, however IMS uses paid marshals for those track rental days.
Where is it?
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located in the City of Speedway, IN 4.9 miles (7.8 km) Northwest of downtown Indianapolis and 13.3 miles (21.4 km) Northeast of (IND) Indianapolis International Airport.
How do I get there?
IMS is at the crossroads of several major interstates including i70 going East to West from Ohio to Missouri, i74 East to West from Ohio to Illinois, and i65 North South from Kentucky to Northern Indiana in the direction of Chicago, IL and Michigan.
When can I register?
Registration opens several months before the event.
Who do I register with?
United States Auto Club (USAC) is responsible for staffing all events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Visit their web site: http://www.motogpworker.com/ to download forms that must be submitted along with a small fee payment to be considered. Selected marshals are notified by e-mail closer to the event date.
What should I bring to the event if selected and what’s provided?
Blue USAC overalls are provided during the registration process along with an event hat and an IMS/USAC t-shirt. Bring comfortable clothing to wear under the overalls keeping in mind that mornings may be cool and days may be quite hot. Bring sun screen and comfortable shoes as stations are metal boxes or on asphalt on the inner track and concrete closer to the Speedway banking.
Where is event registration?
Event registration takes place at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club, 4400 West 16th St, Indianapolis 46222 the day before the event. A big dinner is provided for the volunteers.
Where is the morning meeting?
Event parking is on the North side of the track by taking West 30th Street to Hulman Blvd. You would walk in towards the Grand Stands close to Turn 1. The meeting is held by the tunnel leading to the track where Shuttle trucks or vans take workers to their stations.
Where can I stay?
Stay in downtown Indianapolis, the suburbs or camp at the track. Camping area is on the West side of the track and can be accessed from Georgetown Road, turning into Georgetown Ct. marked as Lot 4A No showers were available. Porter john bathrooms only nearby or Speedway restrooms with running water a short walk away if the gate is open.
What perks are offered for volunteering this event?
Event hat and Indianapolis Motor Speedway t-shirt are distributed at the registrations/credentials collection. USAC may also distribute “swag” collected from teams during morning meetings.
