When is it?
April 17 to 19
Where is it?
The streets of Long Beach, California along the waterfront on a temporary street circuit.
How do I get there?
The temporary circuit is in the heart of Long Beach south of Los Angeles, CA and is well connected by the interstate system which often experiences crippling amounts of traffic. Long Beach is right off of i710 which connects to the i405 and i110. i710 skirts the Port of Long Beach and takes you North towards Los Angeles. i405 goes North South and connects to i5 which takes you from the Canadian border in Washington State to the Mexican border in Southern California. (LGB) Long Beach Airport is the closest at only 6 to 10 miles (9.6 to 16.1 km) North depending on what route you choose, 20 minute drive in general. (LAX) Los Angeles International Airport is 22 miles (35.2 km) Northeast via i405 and about 30 minutes away. (BUR) Bob Hope Airport in Burbank is about 39.6 miles (63.7 km) North and would take about 1 hour. (SNA) John Wayne Airport in Orange County is about 24 miles (38.3 km) Southeast and 40 minutes away.
When can I register?
Registration starts about three months before the event using the MotorsportReg.com web site.
Who do I register with?
CalClub Region of the SCCA is responsible for organizing marshals for this event. Read more about the club on their web site: http://www.calclub.com/ and check out MotorsportReg.com for registration details: http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/flag-com-long-beach-grand-prix-registration-scca-california-sports-car-469386 Once you set up an account on MotorsportReg.com most of the information will be pre-filled, be sure to submit your availability however as you are required to work the practice, qualifying and race days.
What should I bring to the event if selected and what’s provided?
You must bring your own White gear to volunteer. Two piece shirt/pant or one piece overalls are acceptable. Some marshals, especially international do wear their Orange overalls, but White is the appropriate color for American marshals. The weather should be warm and pleasant with rain possible, so bring rain gear and sun screen. Wear comfortable shoes as the temporary circuit is set up on the concrete and asphalt streets and the days on track are long.
Where is event registration?
Registration and Credentials collection takes place at the Hilton Long Beach at 701 West Ocean Blvd.
Where is the morning meeting?
Event parking and morning meetings take place outside the Pike at Rainbow Harbor Garage on W. Shoreline Drive which can be accessed from S. Pine Avenue. Much of the waterfront area is used as part of the track and may not be accessible.
Where can I stay?
Stay in downtown Long Beach. The street circuit is a short walk away from a number of hotels for various budgets. It is also possible to stay in Los Angeles and Orange County but that would require a longer commute. Couchsurfing and Airbnb is a legitimate option.
What perks are offered for volunteering this event?
Event patches, t-shirts and hats may be distributed. CalClub also may distribute “swag” donated by competitors and teams.
