When is it?
July 23 to 25
Where is it?
Lime Rock Park 5 miles Southeast of Lakeville, CT or 10 minute drive, 112 miles Northeast or 2.5 hours drive from New York City, NY and 159 miles Southwest or 3 hours drive from Boston, MA.
How do I get there?
Lime Rock is a little ways away from a major interstate so small county and state roads and highways with traffic lights must be taken to reach either i90 or Massachusetts Turnpike, i87 New York Thruway or i95 in Connecticut. (HRD) Bradley International Airport in Hartford, CT is one of the closest ways to fly in, located 50 miles East or just over 1 hour drive. (ALB) Albany International Airport is 80 miles Northwest 1.5 hour drive. (HPN) Westchester County Airport on the border of NY and CT is 74 miles South or 1.5 hour drive. (SWF) Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY is 69 miles Southwest or 1 hour 25 minutes away. (LGA) LaGuardia Airport in Queens is 100 miles or 2 hours drive. (JFK) John F. Kennedy International Airport is 112 miles or 2 hours 20 minutes away. (EWR) Newark Liberty International Airport is 120 miles Southwest and 2 hours 25 minutes away. (BOS) Boston Logan International Airport may be much cheaper but it is 161 miles or 3 hours away. Major airports like JFK, LGA, EWR and BOS will be significantly cheaper than smaller airports, both in airfare and car rental costs.
When can I register?
Registration opens about a month before the event on MotorsportReg.com
Who do I register with?
MotorsportReg.com is the place to register. Different SCCA clubs are involved in staffing events at Lime Rock including New York Region of the SCCA, Mohawk-Hudson Region, Northern New Jersey Region, etc. Lime Rock Park is also hiring it’s own marshals for events and SCCA membership is not a prerequisite to register as a volunteer. Lime Rock pays it’s marshals $50 per day worked, and workers must register every morning.
What should I bring to the event if selected and what’s provided?
You must bring your own White gear to volunteer. Two piece shirt/pant or one piece overalls are acceptable. Some marshals, especially international do wear their Orange overalls, but White is the appropriate color for American marshals. Bring extra clothing as it gets cold especially morning or evening hours or when it rains. Bring wet weather gear and good shoes. The wooden stations are great, but some posts require you to stand on grass or mud. There are also hills to go up or down to reach your station.
Where is event registration?
Event registration is at a little shack outside of the Main Gate. From Lime Rock Road (CT112) you exit onto White Hollow Road and turn into the track, proceed straight to the registration shack. From there you turn right into the Main Gate. The shack is nearest to Turn 6 past the Uphill and before the Bridge.
Where is the morning meeting?
Morning meetings are at the Lime Rock Cafe or under the Race Control Tower. Event parking is typically in Lot Z which allows you to cross the track from Pit In. Lot F parking is available for people camping at the track under the Pines near the bathrooms.
Where can I stay?
Camping is possible on the infield under the Pines and near the Bathrooms. A shower trailer is brought in for major events but you must wait in line as it is shared with all the spectators. Couchsurfing or Airbnb are a legitimate option but may be very limited in that part of Western Connecticut. Booking hotels is hopeless especially on the cheap because you compete with all the teams and spectators.
What perks are offered for volunteering this event?
LRP and SCCA that staff events there give out event hats and t-shirts. Sometimes “swag” collected from competitors and teams is distributed. A guest could be added by a worker to the guestlist at the registration building. Lunches are no longer provided but warm dinners are served after many pro events.
