When can I register?
Registration opens a few months before the event. It will be announced on the MotorsportReg.com web site.
Who do I register with?
The Atlanta Region of the SCCA organizes the marshals for the event through the MotorsportReg.com web site. Registration is simple, by creating a MotorsportReg.com account most of your information is pre-filled, leaving you to select the days you are available to work. You are required to work the practice sessions leading up to race day. Read about the club here: http://www.atlantascca.org/ and register for the event here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/
What should I bring to the event if selected and what’s provided?
Bring your own White uniform, two piece shirt/pant or overalls are acceptable. Some volunteers, especially international marshals wear their Orange overalls but it is the norm to wear White for American marshals. Georgia clay will be something you encounter on this trip and that mud does not wash off your white gear. Be prepared for rain, as it does get muddy and wet. Some stations are on a concrete block while others are on the ground, especially positions across track. Fire ants may be an issue, so be aware.
Where is event registration?
The registration tent is close to the Series Registration Tent, though it is unmarked. It is accessible from Winder Hwy (Route 53) by entering Gate 2 and going to the Right past Stand 21 office building.
Where is the morning meeting?
Morning meetings are in the same tent as registration off of Winder Hwy (Route 53). Event parking is also in the same area, and all marshals are required to sign in and be present for the morning meeting in this area even if you are camping closer to the track. A re-entry ticket should be collected every time you exit the track as it will be checked along with your credentials every time by gate staff.
Where can I stay?
Marshal camping is very convenient at the track. It is in the general vicinity of Turn 1 and is accessible by following the road through the support paddock down the hill and to the right. RV and tent space is available but the bathrooms and shower facility is closer to the Race Control Tower in the support paddock. Porter John is available on the camp site.
What perks are offered for volunteering this event?
You are given an event cap and t-shirt at registration along with a patch, cooler bag and other knick-knacks. There is a dinner organized during the event, usually on Friday’s where a worker drawing results in people winning various “swag” from caps and t-shirts to jackets, autographed memorabilia and other donated things from teams and fellow marshals.
