When is it?
Track activities start early in the week before the March 21 race, however those track rental days may be staffed by employees of the circuit.
Where is it?
Sebring International Raceway is located in Highlands County, FL 7 miles Southeast of Sebring, FL. 95 miles South of Orlando, 103 miles Southeast of Tampa, FL, 105 miles Northwest of West Palm Beach, FL and 168 miles Northwest of Miami, FL.
How do I get there?
Sebring International Raceway is some ways away from an interstate. About the same distance from i95 and i75 which connect Florida to points North as far as Maine and Michigan. (MCO) Orlando International Airport is probably the cheapest place to fly into. It is 96 miles North or about 2 hours drive. There is a slew of other good airport options including: (TPA) Tampa International Airport 110 miles Northwest or 2 hours drive. (PIA) St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport 113 miles Northwest or 2 hours drive. (SRQ) Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport 85 miles West or 1 hour 40 minutes drive. (RSW) Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers 95 miles Southwest or 1 hour 50 minutes drive. (WPB) West Palm Beach International Airport 107 miles or 2 hours drive Southeast, (FLL) Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport 152 miles or 2.5 hours drive Southeast. (MIA) Miami International Airport 165 miles or 2 hours 45 minutes drive Southeast. As you can see no matter what airport you choose, there will be significant driving involved so shop for the cheapest flight.
When can I register?
Registration opens a few months before the event, and stays open close to the start of the event.
Who do I register with?
Central Florida Region of the SCCA organizes the marshals for this event. The registration process is available on their web site: http://www.cfrscca.org/ On the CFR web site see the tab for Pro Racing and choose “Pro Worker Registration Process” from the drop down menu. Fill it out and submit. You will be notified by e-mail with the results closer to the event date.
What should I bring to the event if selected and what’s provided?
You must bring your own White gear to volunteer. Two piece shirt/pant or one piece overalls are acceptable. Some marshals, especially international do wear their Orange overalls, but White is the appropriate color for American marshals. Bring extra clothing as it gets cold especially in the evening hours. Sebring is grassy and sandy with some stations positioned on concrete. So bring comfortable shoes for the long days of work involved.
Where is event registration?
Registration takes place at the Central Florida Region of SCCA building that can be accessed by entering Gate 2 off of Haywood Taylor Blvd just after Airport Rd merge, and proceeding to the clearly marked building. You will have your photo taken for the club’s hard card credentials. The same card is used for years with an event sticker put on every subsequent year.
Where is the morning meeting?
Meetings take place in the garage/hall part in the back of the Central Florida Region building.
Where can I stay?
The area around the Central Florida Region building is made available for camping by marshals. Both tent and RV space is available as well as parking for the marshals that drive in. There aren’t many hotels around Sebring that would be cheap enough to stay as teams and spectators rely on the same pool of hotels, so camping is best option. Sebring is famous for it’s spectator camping activities within the track also. There aren’t many options for Couchsurfing near Sebring, at least not without driving a significant distance.
What perks are offered for volunteering this event?
Event patches, t-shirts and hats may be distributed. CFR also distributes “swag” donated by competitors and teams.
