Welcome to Grand Prix Road Trip: Adventures of a Motorsport Marshal

Thank you for visiting my web site. I would like to share with you my recent experience volunteering as a motorsport marshal. Traveling all around the world while enjoying some of the best racing action there is. Doing some serious sightseeing and enjoying amazing and exotic cuisine along the way. I am happy to share any information I gather to help you get involved in Motorsport. If you like Racing you can become a Marshal!

I have received a lot of criticism in the previous versions of this site in regards to why I would promote marshaling. So I will spell out my intentions. I am an automotive enthusiast. I have been for as long as I can remember. And when an opportunity came up to get involved in motorsport hands on, I jumped on it. I was very lucky, being in the right place and at the right time. And it wasn’t all smooth sailing, there was plenty of rejection along the way, an experience which I am also happy to share to encourage other enthusiasts to be persistent.

Why do I do it?

Because I enjoy it! I don’t make money out of this hobby, in fact it’s quite an expensive hobby to have. But when you do something you truly enjoy, it makes the effort well worth it.

Why do I encourage others to join?

Because high participation improves the experience for everyone involved. I have been helped by complete strangers in my travels, especially while volunteering internationally. I feel inspired to help others get started in any way I can. And this web site is a great tool. I have also experienced the shortage of volunteers almost everywhere I went and it makes our hobby more dangerous than it should be when we don’t have the minimum number of personnel to staff an event. Volunteering in motorsport is fun, it is exciting, and I genuinely want others to experience it for themselves at the level of their choosing.

I recognize that marshaling may not be for everyone, so I welcome enthusiasts to this site that just want to check out the pictures or the videos as race fans. The hobby is quite dangerous and also expensive. I will be the first to tell you that my experience may differ from the one you have even when we volunteer for the same event. So take what is written here with a grain of salt. This web site only reflects my personal experience and I write in no official capacity. I am not an expert and learn something new every time I get to the race track. So let that serve as a disclaimer. People love stories, this is my story.
