How to become a marshal in the USA?

US is a big country and there is a lot of motorsport taking place on any given weekend in the racing season.

If you are a local wanting to marshal, I would recommend finding a nearby racetrack to get involved with. Depending on the track you may join as a volunteer or as a track employee. For example, to marshal at Lime Rock for most events you should be an SCCA member, however for New Jersey Motorsports Park this isn’t required as you can be hired directly by NJMP. To marshal at Watkins Glen you need to join Race Services Inc. and for events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway you need to join USAC: United States Auto Club.

For major events like Formula One, IndyCar or MotoGP, it pays to know the club running the event. For example the Circuit of the Americas falls under Lone Star SCCA region however for F1 marshal registration is handled by USAC. Take a look at the blog section of this web site to see who is handling the recruitment, keeping in mind that most event registration takes place months before the event.

Event registration is often available online directly with the organizers or through: or:
