I’ve been resisting the temptation to buy the “cheap” eBay Miata lip spoiler for at least a year now. I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon… follow the latest fad that all the kids are doing. But the price was right and after seeing a few of them in the wild, I pulled the trigger so to speak. I’m glad I did.
This is going to be post 1 of 2, because I haven’t installed the thing yet. The weather has yo-yo’ed in the Northeast from 70F a few days ago down to 14F tonight, feeling like single digits with the wind chill. As good as that 3M double sided tape is that the spoiler came equipped with, I doubt anything will adhere in this weather. Luckily I’ll be in Florida early next week where the weather is a more agreeable 80F and I’m sure it’ll stick just fine there.
But I wanted to make a post just to comment on the whole eBay buying experience and the first impressions of the product.
It looks good!
Here’s the unboxing:
There are several sellers on eBay and a long discussion about this product on Miata.net with the post specifically linking to the seller I bought from: EuroMotoSport. The price $38.99 total, shipping including coming from Taiwan. I added an $11 tube of 32V Copper Red Paint to my order from Quirk Parts to bring the total to just over $50 bux so that I could use a promotion from eBay, a $10 off $50 coupon, which brought the total down to $41 for both items. Since I was willing to pay $11 for the touch-up paint, I’m going to subtract the discount from the spoiler. It basically cost me $28.99 And since I used an eBay gift card I had previously purchased from a local supermarket at a 20% discount, that’s an additional $8 off (if you count the full $41 payment that I made to eBay for this transaction). So basically $21-22 is what I paid for my spoiler all in all, which is good for what it is.
Out of the three available options I chose the Rounded-edge spoiler, a Normal and Streamlined versions were also available, but after seeing pictures of all three on Miata.net forums, I was most partial to the Rounded-edge one.
The order was placed late on February 24th and status was updated to shipped on March 1st. To my great surprise the seller air-mailed the item with DHL, and when I got a Text and eMail alert about it, it looked like they overnighted it! WOW… in reality the shipment took two days being left in customs for most of the day it was actually scheduled to be delivered (March 3rd instead of 2nd) but I’m totally cool with that.
I’m also really cool with them shipping DHL… I had never noticed it before but Deutsche Post is really proud of their Motorsport partnerships, which I didn’t even realize existed…. I knew they sponsored Formula 1 and Formula E, but WEC, WTCC and MotoGP came as a surprise. Way to go eBay seller! You made my day.
I’m looking forward to installing this thing in Daytona Beach!
Stay tuned for a follow-up post.
