I’ve always heard great things about the V8 Supercars season opener at Adelaide, South Australia but never gave it much thought to actually attend. If anything, I always thought hyped up events were terribly overrated, but since I’ll be in that part of the Pacific anyway I decided to bite the bullet and sign up. It pays to have met the good folks that are high up on the food chain of CAMS. And who are apparently affiliated with that venue so my fingers are crossed that I will actually get in. Whatever they choose to do with me there is up to them, I’m more than happy being a flaggie, trackie or a grid marshal. Which I’ve done for V8’s already.
What has really made me come around and give Adelaide a serious thought were two things. First, my plans to stay in New Zealand longer were perhaps flawed. While it would be awesome to visit the South Island and check out Dunedin and Queenstown there is absolutely no guarantee that I could do it on the cheap. And second, of all the races to participate in, Adelaide would be the ideal one. Since the V8 Supercars and all the supporting series race on a street circuit, it means getting there (CouchSurfing) would be quite convenient, certainly better than trying to find a place to stay near Bathurst. So it seemed like a no brainer.
I do have the sign up form if anyone is interested, please feel free to get in touch. No word yet on when registration closes, but as always spaces are limited, especially for foreign visiting marshals. An as is now usual, I expect many Singapore GP officials there 🙂
