Hot Wheels Mystery Models

I try not to stray from my core Hot Wheels and Matchbox collecting hobby, and that is to focus on collecting realistic race cars… keeping them sealed in their original packaging, because often the card art is much better than the deco on each car. But I stumbled upon a mystery models set at Walmart today that fits all the criteria of my collection minus the card art because the cars are sealed in plastic baggies that also contain a sticker of the car, much like the blue card for the individual cars.

There is a lot to like in this set of Mystery cars, even when the car I wanted most was most elusive… I still have not found it (the Mystery: Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo)

But I stocked up on the rest and thanks to the good folks at HWCollectorsNews.com I can even share what each car looks like without taking mine out of the package. I even brought home one of the boxes from Walmart specifically to keep all my mystery stuff separate from the rest I put up on a wall…

Race Cars:

The cars I was most interested in that I got:

  • Dodge Viper SRT-10
  • Acura NSX
  • Ford GT LM
  • BMW M3 GT2
  • Cadillac LMP
  • Ford Fiesta Rallycross

I’ll be on the lookout to find that Huracan GT3 that fits my collection best!

Second Post Card from the Roar before the 24 at Daytona Int’l Speedway

What an amazing opportunity!

Weather was freezing cold… literally! 37F for the final day of practice on Sunday. It was sunny but windy. But the day went by fairly quickly, we finished pretty early for a day at the track and before returning our equipment to Central Florida SCCA compound we made a dash for the paddock to take some more pix.

I’m so glad we did because the pix came out great, and there weren’t too many spectators in the way of the cars to take good shots. Enjoy:

I’m really happy with this whole trip so far, everything I wanted to do I managed to accomplish and it’s a great feeling. Can’t wait to come back for the 24 hour race at the end of the month!

Cars and Coffee Paramus, New Jersey May 2016

I just went to church on Sunday… it was held in a parking lot of Paramus Towne Square and there were a lot of other car enthusiasts in attendance… Cars and Coffee’s around the country are like a religious experience and I’m so happy to be able to attend one.

Today’s variety was incredible once again. Besides some of the many cars I’ve seen before over the past few C&C’s I’ve attended before, there were some new things to oogle at. I loved it!

Here’s the pix:

I’m so happy to see a Miata at one of these, even though I still don’t know who the owner is. Maybe next time I’ll get to wash my car before attending so I could park next to it again (my car was pretty filthy with a cover of dust from yesterday’s trip to Lime Rock).

Props to Tony Boniello for organizing these things on a regular basis, and while I understand as an LLC Cars & Caffe is a unique name, but that name sucks… just call it Cars & Coffee like everyone else does and enjoy your day!

See you at the next one. (Hopefully)

Mazda MX-5: visiting Gotham Dream Cars

If my car had feelings it would probably want to be social, and social cars go out and meet other cars…. Yes! This is a pointless post where all I’m going to do is post some pictures of the damn Miata… but also give a little preview of a project I’m working on that my buddy Rob Ferretti was kind enough to give a hand with.

This is the second time this week that I’ve brought out the Miata in a car show/car cruise type setting. The Cheesequake to Sandy Hook cruise was fantastic, and so was my visit to Gotham Dream Cars in Englewood, NJ.

I would love to do a Marshal Podcast as I’ve mentioned previously on this blog, and instead of trying to figure out everything from scratch myself I asked Rob Ferretti for some advice. Rob has been doing YouTube videos for years now with his Super Speeders channel. So it was nice to see what he’s doing and how he’s doing it.

But checking out the cars was a nice thing also, and even with an inch of dust on my car that has accumulated since the last time I washed it just before the Jersey Shore cruise on Sunday, the cherry red comes through nicely under the artificial light of the warehouse.

Enjoy:

As you can see Rob’s collection is quite extensive, from his personal cars like the Acura NSX, BMW M3, Lambo Murcielago, Porsche GT3 and a very turbocharged Toyota Supra to the rental cars like the Ferrari 458, the new Lambo Huracan, a bunch of Bentley Continental GT’s, a Maserati Gran Turismo, and others.

For those of you marshaling…. all the cars you’d already see on the race track just in a civilian form… with all the interior bits typically surrounded in leather instead of carbon fiber 😉

Stay tuned for the podcast.
