Wanna Buy a Fiata? Many New & Used Fiat 124 Spiders & Abarth Models at Fiat Alfa Romeo, Ramsey, NJ

On my way to the pre-Thanksgiving Cars & Caffe event at Jack Daniels Porsche I couldn’t help but notice a fleet of Fiata’s on the lot of the local Alfa Romeo Fiat dealer next door. So I stopped by to take a few shots:

The front car caught my eye for sure… what a gorgeous red! And funny enough while the Mazda dealer across the highway put all of their SUV’s upfront, it was nice to see the Fiata’s in addition to the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s in this lot!

And a really pretty Abarth model…

And since it’s got a competing dealership’s name plate on it I’m guessing this is a used 2017 model.

A more luxurious version of the red Fiata with the chrome window surround (like the NC Miata Limited Edition from 2006)

Similar but different… the Fiata actually looks bigger than an NC!

Brand spanking new 2017 model Fiata…

Brand spanking new 2018 model Fiata…

This was a great opportunity to check out the Alfa Romeo Stelvio up close and personal (short of test driving it)

I love how identical the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio look side-by-side to each other.

Can you tell the difference from a photo?

Can you?

Anyway… go buy a Fiata! There’s so many of them available and with the winter around the corner I bet you could get a great deal too!

I’m sure I’ll at least test drive a Fiat 124 Spider in my automotive future… fingers crossed!

PS. I just realized, in case you punch in Ramsey Alfa Romeo Fiat into your GPS the address is technically in Upper Saddle River, NJ the dealership is part of Ramsey Auto Group which does have dealerships in Ramsey, NJ like the aforementioned Mazda dealer.

Caffeine & Carburetors in New Canaan, Connecticut Sept 2017: the Italians

The Italians at Caffeine & Carburetors in New Canaan, CT this weekend came out in force!

Instead of yapping I’m just going to share pix… I have a new found love for Alfa Romeo’s and Lancia’s don’t know why, but I’ve started noticing them more and more. Of course the Lambo’s and Ferrari’s came out in abundance too. I was especially happy to see the Dino GT and the Miura present.

Caffeine & Carburetors in New Canaan, Connecticut Sept 2017

Greetings from Connecticut! This Sunday my buddy Bill and I convoyed together to New Canaan for one of the biggest Cars & Coffee events I’ve ever been to. I never liked the name: Caffeine & Carburetors but I understand the idea that everyone involved in organizing C&C events try to register a name that someone who’s never been to one could recognize but different enough that the original “cars & coffee” (I’m assuming the one in California or elsewhere on the West Coast where the idea started) don’t sue them for trademark infringement.

Anyway… I took well over 300 photos before my iPhone battery went dead… I’d like to share over 200 of them here. Instead of overwhelming the viewer with all the pix in one post I’m going to break them down a bit… I was considering doing it by car colors, or colorful cars and gray cars… or classics vs. modern. But instead I think it’d be smart to do it by origin or brand home country.

So the menu to come:

Some posts will be longer than others and even though I’m making this first, it’ll contain all the overflow images that didn’t fall into the above categories… so please bear with me.

I have to say I loved the show! I really did… it was massive. Some would say YUGE! It was well organized. Lots of volunteers and cops directing traffic around, which was great. I read about the organizers before coming and how they were debating whether or not to hold these C&C events in 2017… I’m glad they followed through. And I wanted to do my part by becoming a patron in the coffee shop that’s behind the whole idea… but I gotta say that the barista kid that filled my iced chai order messed it up. Not a big deal but… a few pumps of syrup on ice cubes is a freaking weird concoction, but it isn’t chai.

The happy mug shot…

My goal was to see a few cars I’ve seen in pictures on facebook at  previous events. Lucky for me I got to see all of them! The Spyker. The Pagani. The Giulia. The Elan. Le 2CV. The Miura. The Dino GT.  The Lancia’s and all those Alfa Romeo’s.

And here’s the overflow pix that don’t fit into my foreigh/european car lists above…

I really wanted to see this thing up close… and voila!

Funny how many cars wore dealer plates. Are they all for sale? I doubt it… but having access to a dealer plate means you can drive an unregistered and uninsured car to… well a car show like this! The other plates that stood out a lot were all those blue Montana plates.

Lots of bikes in attendance also!

American luxury… the original lux sports utility vehicle… soccer mom machine… road trip highway cruiser!

Back when Saleen Speedsters looked absolutely gorgeous!

Technically Renault owned, but not quite French… AMX!

Bill and I arrived the show fairly late, around 10am… mostly due to us leaving late from New Jersey but also because there was a fatal accident right before our exit on the Merritt Parkway which was a sad sight to see. Luckily though we got perfect parking spots right by the event as many of the early-birds started leaving. We saw a number of cars driving off as we arrived, but the cars we got to see were absolutely amazing!

Would love to come back for more in the future…

Great job guys!

Cars & Coffee at Tice’s Corner Woodcliff Lake New Jersey June 2017

Sunday Fun Day! A heatwave is hitting Northern New Jersey, and a ton of people came out for this month’s Cars & Coffee event at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake, NJ

I overslept… didn’t wash my car but wanted to hang out with a few people at the event. So I rushed over… and as soon as I pulled in around 10am everyone else started leaving… all the McLaren P1’s, the Porsche 911’s, the Lamborghinis and Ferrari’s of very recent vintage, but the few cars that remained still caught my eye. So I wanted to share some pix of them…. I realize a lot of the cars are classic and vintage, which you’re likely to see at your neighborhood’s weekly cruise night. But I don’t care. It was a great mix of new and old and for me these oldies stood out….

especially the Figaro:

It’s also important to remember that this area of Jersey is still very European… there’s BMW North American headquarters just across the street. There’s lots of Italians still living here. The real Mafialand… you know where Soprano’s are from. So it’s nice to see all these Alfa Romeo’s, Lancia’s and Fiat’s around. The classic type, the ones that you don’t normally see here. That was nice to see!

Oh and I also really loved the Geländewagen:

Haven’t seen these in a while… but I have seen them before… in Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand. It was nice to see them again!

How is this car a “Historic”?

It is registered as one… look at the Trianglular inspection sticker.

Seeing the Mercedes-Benz 300SL in both convertible and gullwing was awesome… seen both of them before but they sure stood out.

Oh look… a nice Ford

C’est fini….  until next time!

Sunday Fun Day Part 1! AutoX Motorsport NE at the Meadownlands

Today was a good day!

The threat of rain didn’t dampen my automotive adventures… I slept in pretty late, woke up 9’ish which was a good change from last year when I volunteered Detroit Grand Prix and had to be up at the crack of dawn to drive down to Belle Isle. So that was a plus. I did get to see some racing today, if you could call Autocross racing… all 50+ seconds of it at a time where various Miata’s, Porsche’s, Vette’s, Rotary RX-7’s and RX-8’s and a shitton of other cars took to the track… err parking lot at the Meadownalds.

I was surprised to see two concurrent AutoX events happening at the Met Life Stadium (the former Giants Stadium) one at Lot L and another at Lot E. I’ll share my observations below, knowing full well that many will not agree with my opinions… and since I took a hell of a lot of pictures I’ll break them up into three parts, the Sunday Fun Day series if you will.

So first stop was at Lot L where Motorsports North East were running their Autocross… I learned about it at Miata.net where several owners posted a plan to “race” and hang out, spectate and proceed to lunch at a famous hot dog joint nearby.

I came. I saw. I took some pix. And I got bored rather quickly. Now I understand why I prefer circuit racing to solo. Especially if I could be a part of it as a volunteer.

So here’s some pix:

As you can see people run what they brung… I had a hard time choosing a cover photo for this post because it was definitely a hard choice between the beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulia which I was delighted to go flat out for the first time, or that cobbled together Mazda MX-5 Miata NA with a turbo and a big wang in the back.

But this event was definitely the “budget” version of the next stop on my automotive adventures today… the Sunday Fun Day series continues…

Cars & Coffee at Tice’s Corner Woodcliff Lake New Jersey May 2017

No better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than at my local Cars & Coffee. This meetup at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake, NJ is always a treat, check out the pix:

I arrived a bit late, after 10am which meant may cool cars were either leaving or had already left… like the Enzo Ferrari and McLaren P1… but the Miata’s were still there, and after parking lot clearing a bit we decided to get them together for a photo op:

At this point it was around noon and everyone was hungry so we headed down to Hackensack to my favorite BBQ joint… Cubby’s!

This place is so awesome… there’s nothing “bad” on the menu, everything is “great!”

Looking forward to the next one!

Miata Fiata Shopping in Atlanta, Georgia

My goal was to be a tourist today while staying in Atlanta. I’ve been wanting to visit the World of Coca Cola ever since the first time I came to the capital of Georgia but never had enough time to do it… logged onto their web site to buy a ticket and was promptly informed that World of Coke was closed due to a private event today, boo hoo…. so plan B was to go shopping for a Miata/Fiata instead… My buddy Sakshik who’s hosting me for this layover lives nearby to two dealerships almost next to each other: Landmark Fiat of Atlanta and Jim Ellis Mazda of Atlanta, so I swung up there to take some pix.

I’ve heard of Jim Ellis before because they have a very reasonably priced Mazda OEM parts store online… the only issue is I never bought from them because the shipping typically kills any deals. But I was eager to check them out.

First stop was Landmark Fiat…. which isn’t branded as such. It’s just a Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep dealership that is surrounded by Fiats… much like that last dealership I visited in Winchester, Virginia that had two white Abarth Fiata’s upfront.

Here’s some pix:

The white Abarth 124 Spider must be the most popular option. All three Fiat 124 Spiders on the lot however were Automatics also.

This gray seems to be a very popular Fiata color.

This being a Chrysler/Dodge dealership there was some serious performance on display, like this row of SRT Chargers and Hellcats:

Kind of weird seeing customers bring their Fiat 500 Abarth’s for service at a Dodge dealer…

But they’re obviously selling them here too.

And there’s a 124 spider I got to sit in to try for size, It fits!

Next stop, Jim Ellis Mazda of Atlanta:

As soon as I pulled up I was swarmed by salesmen greeting me. Very different situation from the Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat dealer where nobody came up to me during my whole stay there taking pix.

The RF’s were the only 2017 model Miata’s on the lot it seems, all of the soft top ND’s were 2016’s apparently. One of the salesmen that came up to me inside the dealership said they were selling really well

A customer Copper Red Mica NC in for service…

I really want to get one of these Copper Red Mica CX-7 SUV’s for my mom to replace her aging Ford Exploder:

Funny how FCA isn’t selling their Alfa-Romeo’s through the Dodge dealer, opting instead to sell Giulia’s via their Maserati franchise.

Voila!

So if you’re in the Hotlanta area, of which I’m already jealous because you have the perfect Miata weather year round here, and you’re shopping for a Miata or Fiata, check out the dealerships on the Northeast side of town. There’s quite a selection to choose from!

Want to buy a Fiata? There’s a Few Abarth 124 Spiders in Winchester, VA

A couple brand spanking new Abarth Fiata’s caught my eye today on the drive home from Florida. Bright and early in the morning I visited my usual pit stop at Sheetz the last stop I need to make on the drive (back in my Summit Point days I’d refill here too, and with the Miata it’s almost exactly 300 miles to Northern New Jersey so a good place to top off for the last time). Next door is a Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram dealer that a few months ago had a nice Gray NC PRHT in the lot… it made me wonder, who the hell would trade-in a Miata for a Dodge?

Well, duh! In places where Alfa Romeo Fiat dealers aren’t available, Fiats are sold through other FCA dealerships. Seeing the two Fiata’s parked up front made that point really obvious!

So I pulled in and took a few shots…

Both cars seemed to have Virginia inspection stickers in the center of the windshield, but also the window stickers in the passenger door, so I’m not quite sure if they’re brand new or lease returns. but either way they looked spotless! I have no affiliation with this dealership so I can’t recommend or otherwise, but the least I could do is give heads up if any enthusiast is in the market… keep in mind Summit Point Raceway is just a few minutes away on the Virginia/West Virginia border.

Cars & Coffee at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake New Jersey November 2016

Last Cars & Coffee of the season at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake was a huge event. So yuge that we had to search for parking in the overflow lot near the bank down hill… it also felt a little less like C&C and more like a weekly cruise night, like those I used to attend every Saturday at the Whiskey Cafe in Lyndthurst, New Jersey. There were people selling cars and not just the boys from the local McLaren dealership displaying a pair of beautiful exotics. But quite a few more pedestrian cars.

Speaking of pedestrian cars there were several Miata’s but for whatever reason we didn’t really get to chat with any of them. Overall a very nice way to spend a Sunday morning.

One final note on the subject of Cars & Coffee events, I really hope they continue long into the future. I know some C&C’s have been disappearing especially on the West Coast in California and it’s a shame. I am really looking forward to taking my 3 year old nephew to a few of these when he’s old enough to appreciate the cars there.
