Wanna Buy a Fiata? Many New & Used Fiat 124 Spiders & Abarth Models at Fiat Alfa Romeo, Ramsey, NJ

On my way to the pre-Thanksgiving Cars & Caffe event at Jack Daniels Porsche I couldn’t help but notice a fleet of Fiata’s on the lot of the local Alfa Romeo Fiat dealer next door. So I stopped by to take a few shots:

The front car caught my eye for sure… what a gorgeous red! And funny enough while the Mazda dealer across the highway put all of their SUV’s upfront, it was nice to see the Fiata’s in addition to the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s in this lot!

And a really pretty Abarth model…

And since it’s got a competing dealership’s name plate on it I’m guessing this is a used 2017 model.

A more luxurious version of the red Fiata with the chrome window surround (like the NC Miata Limited Edition from 2006)

Similar but different… the Fiata actually looks bigger than an NC!

Brand spanking new 2017 model Fiata…

Brand spanking new 2018 model Fiata…

This was a great opportunity to check out the Alfa Romeo Stelvio up close and personal (short of test driving it)

I love how identical the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio look side-by-side to each other.

Can you tell the difference from a photo?

Can you?

Anyway… go buy a Fiata! There’s so many of them available and with the winter around the corner I bet you could get a great deal too!

I’m sure I’ll at least test drive a Fiat 124 Spider in my automotive future… fingers crossed!

PS. I just realized, in case you punch in Ramsey Alfa Romeo Fiat into your GPS the address is technically in Upper Saddle River, NJ the dealership is part of Ramsey Auto Group which does have dealerships in Ramsey, NJ like the aforementioned Mazda dealer.

Want to buy a Fiata? There’s a Few Abarth 124 Spiders in Winchester, VA

A couple brand spanking new Abarth Fiata’s caught my eye today on the drive home from Florida. Bright and early in the morning I visited my usual pit stop at Sheetz the last stop I need to make on the drive (back in my Summit Point days I’d refill here too, and with the Miata it’s almost exactly 300 miles to Northern New Jersey so a good place to top off for the last time). Next door is a Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram dealer that a few months ago had a nice Gray NC PRHT in the lot… it made me wonder, who the hell would trade-in a Miata for a Dodge?

Well, duh! In places where Alfa Romeo Fiat dealers aren’t available, Fiats are sold through other FCA dealerships. Seeing the two Fiata’s parked up front made that point really obvious!

So I pulled in and took a few shots…

Both cars seemed to have Virginia inspection stickers in the center of the windshield, but also the window stickers in the passenger door, so I’m not quite sure if they’re brand new or lease returns. but either way they looked spotless! I have no affiliation with this dealership so I can’t recommend or otherwise, but the least I could do is give heads up if any enthusiast is in the market… keep in mind Summit Point Raceway is just a few minutes away on the Virginia/West Virginia border.

Miata Fiata Talk Podcast Field Trip to the Alfa/Fiat Dealer, Comparing Fiat 124 Spider to NB MX-5 Miata

Today the Miata Fiata Talk podcast crew took a little field trip to a local Fiat dealer to make a very unscientific comparison between Sakshik’s NB Miata and the new Fiata 124 Spider.

The similarities I think are pretty obvious. The cars are nearly identical in size and dimensions, but what stands out the most is how the lines of both cars look slightly similar to each other. Sure the headlights and tail lights are different, but if you squint just right you can totally see it…

We stopped by the Fiat dealer on the way back from the last Cars & Coffee of the 2016 season at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake, I’ll post some pictures from that event separately. For now enjoy these pix;

There’s very little similarity between the Fiata and the NC’s…

Miata Fiata Talk: We Started a Podcast! Episode 1 Talks About Shopping for a Pre-Owned Mazda MX-5, Have a Listen!

Great news everyone! A few Miata friends and I started a podcast.

It’s called Miata Fiata Talk and we just recorded our first episode, have a listen:

Miata Fiata Talk: Episode #1: Shopping for a Pre-Owned MX-5 Miata or any other Used Car for that matter.

Participants: Chris, Sakshik and Russ with Dan working the sound/recording system.

Chris owns a 2008 silver NC1 GT PRHT with an appearance package, a Manual Transmission and a bunch of mods. He uses the car for Autocross a lot. Sakshik owns a 2000 NB MT that he also Autocrosses. People already know about me and my 2007 NC1 GT PRHT that is stock and not used for any kind of racing other than Road Trips that get me to the race track. And Dan currently owns a couple of cool cars including a Mini Cooper and a Ford Mustang.

For the very first episode we thought it would be a good idea to introduce ourselves by discussing the shopping experience for a pre-owned Miata, since none of us bought one new off the dealer lot. Occasionally we went way off topic, especially when talking about cars we owned in the past. For Chris it was the Mini Cooper and for me a Ford Crown Vic (of which I had a grand total of ten).

In this episode we also cover a bunch of things to look out to when searching for the Miata you are after. Sakshik had a recent experience buying a Mazda from a used-car dealer. I bought mine through Craigslist while Chris bought his on AutoTrader.com

Chris has a whole check list of things to look out for when shopping for a used car. The rest of us were winging it talking about our experiences. I mentioned the story of how I actually won a bid on a car in Miami, Florida for a good price but then found out that the car had multiple moderate crashes. So I didn’t actually buy it. When it came to test drives I went to see three cars, one MT one AT and one at a local dealer that wouldn’t let me drive it, and finally one I actually bought.

Have a listen. Give us suggestions. Criticism is very welcome!

Stay tuned for more 🙂

Fiat 124 Spider: Fiata Miata for 2017 I’m Guessing I’ll be Able to Rent one in Europe Soon?

Jalopnik has published photos of the 2017 production version of the Fiat 124 Spider based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster, or as everyone is calling it on the forums: Fiata Miata. And the production version looks completely different from what all the speculative renderings were. It’s dramatically different from the 2016 Mazda Miata that it is based on. And at this point I’m not sure if I like it or not. Initial impressions of the Fiata Spider is that it looks more like the NB version of the Miata while the car it’s based on pays more homage to the NA model. The obvious differences between the Fiata and the Miata based on the pictures seem to be a longer nose on the Fiat, and a more square trunk, which will probably have more storage capacity, even if ever so slightly. The interiors look identical. Check out this Jalopnik article for more pictures of the Fiat 124:  jalopnik.com/2017-fiat-124-spider-this-is-it-all-official-and-stuf

Since I am not at all likely to get rid of my NC Miata any time soon, the only likelihood of me driving a Fiata Miata is if I rent one, most likely in Europe as I doubt they’ll be very representative of the American rental car fleets… I certainly have not been able to find any Mazda MX-5 ND rental cars around in my recent travels.

I am looking forward to test driving one just to compare how it feels to my car.

PS. Hopefully the promised Abarth version looks even more aggressive ( I think I secretly wanted the Fiat 124 Spider to look more like the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider than a vintage Fiat or NB Miata for that matter ).
