Mazda MX-5: Hey Sydney & NSW Miata Owners! Come Join Us for a Fish & Chips Run from Kirribilli to Balmoral

Dear friends in Australia, New South Wales, Sydney Area…  come join me and the MX-5 Club Sydney Chapter on a little fish & chips run from under the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Kirribilli to Balmoral.

The meet and greet was the idea of one of the Sydney MX-5 owners from the club, but I wanted to extend the invitation to anyone else finding this blog post on Google or whatever search engine you use. If you’re in Sydney and FREE Tuesday afternoon February 9th at 6pm you should totally come out and enjoy a beautiful sight of a bunch of Miatas and an American guy running around with his phone taking a million pictures.

Check out this link on facebook for details: https://www.facebook.com/events/204635939879450/

Apparently the Aussie MX-5 owners do this quite frequently, which makes me incredibly jealous because Miata meets in New Jersey are few and far between. But oh well…

I’d also like this opportunity to remind folks that I’ll be in Bathurst from February 4th to the 8th and I’m sure there will be a few MX-5 owners there, possibly doing a parade lap around the famous circuit.

I’m also a little slow on organizing a meet-up in Auckland, New Zealand so if anyone is interested from my Kiwi readers please get in touch and we’ll organize a nice get together in the CBD or one of the suburbs.

In addition to that I have had little success finding MX-5 owners in the Cook Islands, as I’ll be visiting Rarotonga for a few days at the end of my trip. Again… interested? Get in touch!

I’m so looking forward to this trip!!!

ITM500 Volunteer Application Form for V8’s in New Zealand

For those of you interested in volunteering an Aussie V8 Supercars race outside of Australia, there’s no better place than New Zealand!

The Motorsport Club of Auckland, NZ is now recruiting for the ITM500 event at the Pukekohe Raceway Park (the little horsetrack surrounded by a newly improved automotive racetrack) about an hour’s drive south of Auckland.

Kiwis are crazy about V8’s no doubt, and I guarantee a good time to anyone that participates in this event. Pukekohe was my very first marshaling experience in New Zealand:

The flag points are neat featuring a well like concrete structure with a cutout to climb in. Bring wet weather gear because it will rain!

Nice and cozy… Do stop in Pokeno on the way over to pick up some freshly made meat pies for the day…. my favorite! Wash it down with some L&P soft drink… also my favorite!

New Zealand Motorsport

Its not even winter yet, but with no racing on the weekends I feel quite awkward being home… even after hurricane Sandy destroyed much of the Jersey Shore and flooded NYC and the surrounding area in NJ, our house was spared – thank God! but the level of excitement was quite different to what I’m used to by now 🙂

I’m bored… so I was looking through some pictures on facebook and right about now I miss New Zealand a lot. During the time the last big storm hit Northern New Jersey I was living in Auckland on the North Island… and just about every other weekend I’d find myself marshalling at Pukekohe Raceway or the new track at Hampton Downs. The Motor Sport Club of Auckland gave me my education when it comes to flagging. The folks I worked with, some ten years my junior and others old enough to be my grand parents, but all very friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to go back and volunteer with them again.

Visit my facebook page for a number of galleries from New Zealand… I worked some major events like the New Zealand V8 Supertourers, Australian V8 Supercars… the Toyota Racing Series at a few tracks like Hampton Downs, Taupo and Manfeild. It was all a blast!

PS. perhaps the coolest sight on track was the Muscle Car racing of the 1960’s era. While I’ve seen them a million times at car shows in the US, Canada and Australia… seeing them go full blast on the track was something else. Kiwi’s raced them and crashed them, repaired them and raced them again. I don’t think anyone is as hardcore about racing as Kiwis!
